What's on at Marwood
Award‑winning Bideford Brass Band will be performing in the gardens on 4th July from 6pm to 8pm. Bring your garden chairs, pack a picnic, pour yourself something delicious, and settle in for an evening of wonderful music. A perfect way to enjoy a summer night.
To celebrate Mothers Day, the very talented ONO Band, will be joining us and playing upbeat swing and Dixie music!
25th – 29th March – Camellia Celebration Week
Marwood Hill Gardens is delighted to say that we are an International Camellia Society Garden of Excellence. The gardens, created by Dr Jimmy Smart VMH in the late 1950’s were awarded the ‘ICS Camellia Gardens of Excellence Award back in 2004’, which is when Garden of Excellence recognition was started in the UK, and we were one of the first three gardens in England to be awarded it. Something which we are very proud of. This is something we were rewarded last year in 2025.
Today we have around 500 different cultivars of Camellias of all shapes and sizes from the large, flowered types to the miniature flowered forms. To celebrate all things Camellia, Marwood Hill Gardens will be hosting a Camellia Celebration Week from 25th – 29th March 2026
What to expect…
Daily 11am talk from the wonderful Malcolm in the village hall next door to Marwood Gardens, all things Camellia.
On Wednesday 25th, Malcolm will also be joined by Camellia expert Caroline Bell, who will also talk and showcase scented camellias.
Daily 2pm walk from Danny to explore the camellias in the garden and glass house – bring your wellies or walking boots (please note on Friday, the walk will be at 12 middays not 2pm).
Best in Bloom - Bring your own Camellia bloom for the best in bloom competition every day - leave it with your name and number (cards will be provided) in the marquee outside the tearoom for judging at the end of the day. If you are the days winner, you will win a free cream tea of your choice in the tearoom.
Camellia Ident – struggling to identify a camellia in your gardens, bring a flower, plant or photo along and the team will try and identify if for you!
Local artist, Lara, has created magnolia posters to tempt you…

Woodturner Simon, from MarWood, has been busy turning camellia wood into all sorts of different bits from candle holders, mushrooms, bowls through to beautiful pestle and mortar sets.
We also have a whole variety of camellia plants for sale in the plant nursery and camellia inspired cakes for sale in the tearoom.

Come and join the Marwood Hill Gardens team for an evening of theatre (and a glass of two, with your picnic). Remember this performance sold out last year!
Rosalind, the daughter of a banished duke, falls in love with Orlando. When she is then banished from the court by her usurping uncle, Rosalind takes on the appearance of a boy, calling herself Ganymede. She, her cousin Celia and jester Touchstone, travel to the Forest of Arden, where her father and his friends live in exile. When she meets Orlando again in the forest, she devises an elaborate scheme to find out the verity of his supposed passion for her, and to further capture his heart, through the witty and mischievous façade of Ganymede.
This wonderful Shakespearian comedy about life, love, betrayal, faith and death is filled with Folksy's touch of live music, bold characters, audience interaction and plenty of laughs. Bring along your picnics and friend and family to enjoy this fun-filled production!

And you'll never guess what's in them...Prepare to be surprised, thrilled and tickled pink by Angelica Sprocket's never-ending pockets, and the marvellous things she keeps in them. Filled with Folksy’s touch of live music, puppetry, audience interaction and madness! This fun-filled show is the perfect treat for the whole family!

Bideford Town Band have kindly agreed to delight Marwood Hill Gardens visitors with one of the championship performances in the gardens from 2pm onwards.
ONO Band, a 6 piece band who enjoy playing an upbeat mix of swing and Dixie classics for 2 45 minute sets between 1 and 3pm on the 27th August.
When a mother duck’s eggs hatch and one duckling looks different from all the rest, the other ducklings laugh and make fun of him. The awkward little bird sets off on his own and is met with hecklers, hunters, and cruel weather. Come and help him along on his journey, filled with live music, puppetry and colourful characters. Will the ugly duckling find his place in the world and discover true happiness? Bring along your picnics, folding chairs and friends and family, to enjoy this wonderful open-air, family musical!
