All about Danny…
I first came to Marwood Hill Gardens 6 years ago, when my small family relocated from Manchester. I remember being in awe of the collection of trees and the serenity of the setting.
I continued to visit once lockdown restrictions were lifted and as I worked through my RHS design courses I would draw on Marwood’s plants and trees in my work. I remember using Acer Griseum and Luma Apiculata in an exam regarding the ornamental impact of their stunning trunks and bark!
Later, on a frosty, morning in November 2023, a chance purchase of two Schefflera Taiwaniana plants from the nursery, a conversation with the nursery manager lead to me becoming a volunteer. During this time I had the opportunity to work alongside Malcolm. Head gardener Malcolm quickly became my Mr. Miyagi and I learned a lot from him about the garden’s history and it’s plants. Together we mapped out several new trails that would see visitors access some incredible trees, previously hidden, like the stunning variagated Liriodendron.
I feel very proud to have become part of the team now, and with my passion for trees and extreme gardening styles of jungle to Mediterranean landscapes, I hope I can hit the ground running and help Marwood Hill Gardens thrive for future generations.
