Plants of the Month – Salvia ‘Phyllis Fancy’ & Genista ‘Porlock’

By November 14, 2023No Comments

Two outstanding plants at this time of the year when a lot of plants have finished and are preparing for the winter.

Salvias are always a mainstay of colour in the autumn and one which is both hardy and attractive now is Salvia ‘Phyllis Fancy’. Planted by the tea-room it’s imposing bushes to 3-feet high are covered in stems of blue and white flowers.

The other attractive shrub is the yellow flowered Genista ‘Porlock’. This broom like evergreen shrub growing to 3-feet high was raised at Porlock, on the Somerset coast in the early 1900s and is very hardy.

Even in the wet cold days of late Autumn some plants light up the garden with their attractive flowers.
