There is no doubt what the Plant of the Month is for September. It has to be the spectacular ‘Red Hot Poker’ species, Kniphofia rooperi.
A native of the Eastern Cape of South Africa, it is a robust evergreen perennial with strap-shaped leaves and growing to 1 to 1.5 metre high (3 to 4 ft )
An impressive landscape plant for sunny positions and well drained soils, it thrives in a dry sunny spot so ideal if we are going to get extreme conditions in future years. It builds up into large clumps and is very long lasting.
In flower now at Marwood with several stately clumps of magnificent bright orange oval spikes of flowers.
